TriCounty Health is tackling an important topic this week and one that most people exclusively associate with kids: Vaccinations. Vaccinations are important for not only the young but for adults as well. “A lot of adults are not vaccinated because these weren’t available when they were children,” explains TriCounty Health nurse Katie Kissel. “So we are trying to get that older generation specifically. It’s very important for adults because they can spread [disease] and get complications just as much as kids can.” The vaccinations available at the health department and recommended for the older generation include Hepatitis A and B; Prevnar and Pneumovax to prevent pneumonia; Zostavax to prevent shingles and PHN; TDap to prevent tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis; and flu vaccinations.
