The animal shelters in the Uintah Basin have been overwhelmed for a long time and need the public’s help. This week the Roosevelt Animal Shelter gave a report on their facility and urged the public to be responsible pet owners. Currently, the Roosevelt Animal Shelter has approximately 26 dog kennels and 38 cat kennels yet they are housing 33 dogs, and 65 cats. Every animal that they can double in a kennel, they currently are. They also have 63 dogs on the dog surrender list, and over 100 cats on the cat surrender list. “PLEASE spay/neuter, microchip, and keep tags up to date!” shares the Roosevelt Animal Shelter. “Please understand that animals can be a 15+ year commitment. Normally they do not come with automatic programming to be the ‘perfect’ pet. They require training, socialization, nurture, and love.” The Roosevelt Animal Shelter reminds the public that there are simple and affordable ways to be a good pet owner.
