Commissioner Recommendation Following Audit of Transportation District

by | Nov 7, 2017 | News | 0 comments

An audit of the Uintah Transportation Special Service District released last week and performed by the Office of the State Auditor presented multiple findings and recommendations for the transportation board and Uintah County to consider. One Uintah County Commissioner has responded to the finding in the audit that states there is potential inadequate independence between the Transportation District and Uintah County. In a letter addressed to fellow Uintah County Commissioners and the County Attorney and Chief Deputy Attorney, Uintah County Commissioner Duane Shepherd recommends that the Commissioners resign from serving on the boards of the six Special Service Districts and instead work with the Districts as advisors to ensure that the County’s needs are expressed to each board. “I think this is a good first step,” shares Shepherd, “to ensure that any real or perceived overreach or conflict of interest by the Commission is mitigated…”  The recommendation letter was submitted to fellow Uintah County officials on Monday. Any public response to the letter has not yet been released
