Click It Or Ticket Utah has a message it wants to reach every corner of the state, including the Uintah Basin. Nationwide, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of injuries and deaths for children ages 0 to 14 and properly used car seats reduce the risk of death in passenger cars by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers. For children 4 to 8-years-old, booster seats reduce injury risk by 45 percent compared to seat belts alone. It is important to use a child’s car seat until the child reaches the manufacturer’s top height or weight. Start with the rear facing car seat for babies. Have them stay in it until after the age of two and 30 pounds. Keep using the forward-facing car seat until the child reaches the highest weight or height allowed by the car seat manufacturer. At that point they should be at least four years of age and about 40 pounds. Keep them in the booster seat until the seat belt of the car fits them correctly. That should be no younger than the age of eight. Get more information on keeping your most precious cargo safe at www.ClickIt.utah.gov
