Give’m Health: Asbestos

by | Sep 8, 2023 | News | 0 comments

TriCounty Environmental Health Deputy Director Joe Hadlock visited the Evans Family Media studios this week to educate the public on asbestos. Hadlock explained that asbestos is a natural fiber that is heat resistant and very durable so it has been used in many building materials. It was eventually learned that during renovation and demolition work, the fibers are released into the air and when inhaled, cause severe damage to lung tissue. So what do you need to know now? Asbestos is still out there and potentially dangerous. There are regulations and any anticipated demolition, renovation, or remodel requires an asbestos inspection by a Utah certified asbestos inspector. Inspections are not required if work is being done in your own primary residence but it’s important to get educated and make safety the priority. TriCounty Health will host a class on asbestos safety in February. In the meantime, contact TriCounty Health for more information.
