It’s time to gather your family and put your elf hats on. Trees for Santa’s Community Effort will soon be on display at Davis Food and Drug and Walmart in Vernal. Effort coordinator Brian Gorum says the act of buying gifts for local children in need has become a tradition for many locals and thanks to their generosity, around 350 children will be blessed with some presents under the tree this Christmas that otherwise would not have been there. The process is simple. Visit one of the trees and take a tag. Information is included on the tag about the gender, age, and desired gift for that child. Purchase a gift, attach the tag to it, and drop it off at the Davis Food and Drug. “We ask that folks spend about $20 to $30 dollars per gift,” explains Gorum. “If a tablet is listed then please understand that there are many inexpensive tablets that can be bought. We are not asking for ipods.” The gifts are gathered and then delivered the week before Christmas. “We love seeing people enjoy the gift of giving and watching as parents teach their little children what giving is all about,” shares Gorum. “We also love to give needy families a Christmas to enjoy.” The effort is very organized and coordinates the charitable giving during the holidays for local families in need.
