The Duchesne County Fair is going on this week and of course includes the annual rodeo and with that the honoring of a local cowboy. Lee Mecham of Neola is the well deserving 2023 Legendary Cowboy. Lee was just 8 years old when he was hired to herd cows from sun-up to sun-down on a 1600 acre ranch every spring and fall. Lee’s lifetime as a cowboy included breaking horses for others while herding cows as a teen. He quickly gained a reputation for owning and riding good horses from a young age. He is skilled in leather and saddle making, even becoming an instructor and earning the Governor’s Craftsman Award. He enjoyed years as the owner of High Country Adventure and as a partner in the U-Bar Ranch. He also worked as a Range Rider with the Taylor Mountain Grazing Association. Of most importance, he and his wife Norma raised a family of 4 children in their chosen way of life. Lee Mecham has been a true cowboy for 85 years making him an excellent fit as the 2023 Duchesne County Fair Legendary Cowboy.
