A Flash Flood warning remains in effect for the region, specifically including the western Uinta Mountains but the risks associated with excessive rainfall extends beyond that. Duchesne County experienced enough flooding on Highway 191 in Indian Canyon to warrant closing the road for several hours on Wednesday evening. The flood watch issued by National Weather Service runs through at least Thursday afternoon and warns that excessive rainfall may result in flooding of streams, creeks, and flood prone areas. Debris flows and mudslides are also at increased risk over burn scars. Wherever you may be traveling, monitor forecasts and take any flash flood warnings seriously. Officials remind all that only 6 inches of moving water can knock a person down and 2 feet of moving water can sweep a vehicle away. Remember slot canyons, normally dry washes, and recent burn scars are especially flood prone. Turn around, don’t drown!
