The exceptionally wet winter made huge strides in the region’s persistent drought conditions but the new outlook from the Climate Prediction Center shows the effects of the extreme heat. The Climate Prediction Center released the Seasonal Drought Outlook for July 20th through October 31st. All of Eastern Utah is included in an area centered at Four Corners that shows drought development. Portions of the Intermountain West appear to be spared from degradation so far, including western Utah. These areas are still showing residual benefits from the above normal winter snowpack and periods of above normal rainfall.
