A Rock Springs couple suing the Sweetwater County School District 1 filed an amended lawsuit last week doubling down on their claim that the District hides students’ transgender names and pronouns from parents. Cowboy State Daily reported on July 21st that the new complaint emphasizes the allegation that the District requires its teachers to lie to parents about their transgener-identifying children. Cowboy State Daily shared the emails where teachers discussed when it’s okay to lie to parents. On June 30th, a federal judge temporarily blocked the school district from hiding the use of transgender names and pronouns in use for a student from the parents. This was issued just one day after the school district had filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit of Sean and Ashley Willey. The Willeys modified the lawsuit this month, dropping the claim that the district violated their familial privacy. Instead the lawsuit now doubles down on the assertion that the District deceptively violated their parental rights.
