Governor Herbert has revealed his Fiscal Year 2019 budget proposal that will be presented to this year’s legislature. Utah is the fastest growing state in the nation and the budget is built around a growth strategy, shares Herbert, with education considered the largest investment in the proposal. The budget proposes to invest 72 percent of all new ongoing revenue into public and post-secondary education which translates to an annual proposed investment of $207.5 million dollars in ongoing public education funding. Governor Herbert emphasized that Utah is on the correct path as a state that continues to grow. Between 2002 and 2014, Utah’s population increased by over 600,000 people. The total budget balance proposed is $16.7 billion dollars. There is no tax increases proposed and no new debt incurred.
