A local veteran will be honored for his service to his country and community during the Field of Flags patriotic program on Sunday. Douglas B. Murphy grew up on his family ranch in Bridgeland, went to grade school in Myton and graduated from Union High. He served an LDS mission in Norway and was pursuing a Master’s Degree at the University of Utah when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served 14 months in combat in Vietnam. Since serving, Mr. Murphy has continued to be a true patriot. He was instrumental in getting the massive flag put on the hill in Dry Fork and still helps maintain it. He has hosted many veterans’ programs and 4th of July celebrations at his home under that large flag. This year’s Field of Flags patriotic program is being held on Sunday, July 2nd at the Colton Pavilion at 6:00pm, during which Douglas B. Murphy will be recognized. The flag field, with over 700 American Flags in place, will be set up through July 5th. Ribbons can be dedicated at dinosaurlandfreedomfest.com
