EV charging stations will be among the additions to the Zions Block project in downtown Vernal. Vernal City Council approved the agreement with Rocky Mountain Power for the installation of the electric vehicle charging stations. The agreement involves about $1 million dollars in grant funds through Electrify America. The space will be leased to Rocky Mountain Power who would own and operate the charging stations which will be located in the parking area of the block on 100 West. The layout is proposed to include 5 parking spots, one of which would be a pull-through slot. The charging stations will initially be free to use but Rocky Mountain Power will have the right to charge in the future. Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion shared with Evans Family Media that the charging stations will be helpful in drawing more travelers to Vernal. Bennion says if you look at an EV station map you can see that people avoid going through Vernal because there are not very many charging stations so they choose other routes.
