Irrigators on the lower part of the Steinaker Service Canal have had their water delayed due to an issue with the new pipe installed as part of the canal enclosure project. The latest construction phase of installing the large diameter pipe wrapped up this spring and brought the total piped section to about 6 miles of the approximate 12 miles of canal. When asked about a potential break on the line, Water District board member Dean Baker confirmed that pressure tests were being performed recently on the new section of the pipeline and a section of the pipe failed. It was unclear why that happened and the Uintah Water Conservancy District has been working to resolve the issue and working with the company that produces the pipe to identify what happened and why. In the meantime, the goal has been to get water flowing as soon as possible to deliver water to all the irrigators waiting on their shares.
