A Duchesne County man has been arrested for actions that allegedly took place on January 6th, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol Building. 29–year-old Odin Meacham was arrested on Monday in Myton and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Meacham was among a mob at the Lower West Terrace of the Capitol Building where he attempted to pull a bike rack away from officers before he rushed towards several officers, raised a wooden pole above his head and slammed the pole on the upper body of at least one officer. He then picked up a metal pole from the ground and threw the pole at another officer, hitting that officer on his left hand. Minutes later he emerged from the crowd again and approached the line of officers shouting at the crowd to “Lean in!” in an attempt to galvanize the crowd to overwhelm the officers. Meacham then allegedly grabbed and attempted to take possession of an officer’s baton. During the investigation, the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office identified Meacham as #400 on the list of wanted individuals. In the over 2 years since the events at the U.S. Capitol Building, over 1,000 individuals have been arrested across the nation and over 320 of those were charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
