Farmers and land owners in the Jensen area have been tuned into the rising waters of the Green River for weeks, if not longer, and the current forecast for that area validates all concerns. National Weather Service reported on Monday that warmer temperatures are tapping into the snowpack and many rivers, including the Green River, are beginning to respond with increased flows and stages. The most significant rises are forecast for the Yampa River along the Highway 40 corridor to the confluence with the Green River as well as the Colorado River from the confluence with the Gunnison River to near the confluence with the Green River and as a result the Green River near Jensen. A Flood Watch was issued stating that flows in the Green River will increase quickly and are expected to reach critical levels by the end of the week. As of Monday morning, the Green River was at 8.7 feet. Minor lowland flooding is expected at 9.5 feet that will impact agricultural land and a few out buildings near the river. By Friday morning it is expected to have reached flood stage which will impact irrigation pumps and equipment near the river as well as have water begin to flow into the mobile home park near Stewart Lake. Sandbags are available at the Jensen Fire Department and sand at the Jensen Park.
