Sometimes the best way forward is embracing the saying, out with the old and in with the new. As plans advance in the Vernal downtown revitalization effort, a strip of the old will soon be gone, making way for the new. Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion shared this week that the buildings, former Basin Laundry and the former Showalter Auto along 100 East, are now officially scheduled for demolition. “The asbestos remediation has been completed clearing the way for a state demolition permit,” explains Bennion. “The demolition of the two buildings was awarded to Allred Paving, a local contractor…This advances the Downtown Vernal Plans. The south part of the block will be a public parking lot to introduce more off-street parking in the downtown area.” The demolition is scheduled to occur in 3 weeks.
