While there are still important details to be worked out, Daggett County and Dutch John have been able to make headway with their negotiations regarding the incorporation of Dutch John. On January 19th, a public meeting was held at the County Courthouse in Manila in which the Dutch John Town Council and Daggett County Commission met and took action on certain aspects of the transfer agreement. Motions were made and passed by each entity agreeing on the transfer of the sewer and water system from Daggett County to Dutch John ownership. It was agreed that 1500 acre feet of water from Daggett County’s 12,000 acre feet of water would be deeded to Dutch John. Both entities also agreed on a transfer of equipment and buildings from Daggett County to Dutch John ownership. “We were able to get off dead center and move forward with an agreement and make transfers occur,” shares Daggett County Commissioner Jack Lytle. “We’ve been working on this diligently for the last three years. It’s been difficult but we are getting to a point where we can agree on what we can live with. We all hope to maintain that momentum to a successful conclusion.” Ownership of the land within town boundaries is among the items remaining to be negotiated.
