As of early Tuesday morning, authorities were still on the lookout for an inmate that had escaped their custody on Monday. The Colorado Department of Corrections is searching for 54-year-old Jewel W. Gist who is a minimum security inmate.
“Gist has been in custody since 2016 after he was convicted of aggravated robbery,” shares the Rifle PD announcement. “He was last seen around 9am at his inmate work assignment on facility grounds…
Gist was wearing his prison-issued green shirt and pants. [He] is described as standing 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds.” The Department of Corrections reports that he is a white man with hazel eyes and brown hair. Anybody who sees him is asked to call 9-1-1. Please do NOT approach him.
