Extreme caution has been taken in preparation to repair an equipment malfunction on a natural gas well in Grand County. According to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, the report of the malfunction was received on Friday, April 7th at 11:44am.

Traffic was prohibited within one-mile due to the potential for explosion and as a precaution the Sheriff’s Office has closed the nearby road. On Sunday, Rose Petroleum provided an update on the company’s plan to fix the problem. “Rose Petroleum’s management team is on site and has been working diligently to bring an oil and gas well under control,” shares the update. “The Company brought in a specialist team to develop and coordinate a procedure to get the well under control. On April 8th and 9th, the Company assembled the necessary service providers, materials, and equipment to perform the required operations, which will commence early on the morning of April 10th.”

Rose Petroleum shared that they believe the well can be brought under control by late in the day on April 10th but it is possible it could take longer. Rose Petroleum also shared that, working with the Sheriff’s Office, resources were being provided to those affected until they could safely exit the area.
