Congressman John Curtis visited the Evans Family Media studios on Monday. Among the important topics discussed was HR 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, which aims to lower energy costs, promote U.S. energy independence, and reduce carbon emissions by reforming the permitting and regulatory processes. During the interview, Representative Curtis emphasized that the energy industry in the Uintah Basin is part of the solution, not part of the problem. “What you do here in the Basin is cleaner than most places in the world,” said Rep. Curtis, who emphasized that the U.S. should be the one exporting as there is a focus on being smart and protecting the environment here that does not exist in most places in the world. HR 1 also aims to reform NEPA which Rep. Curtis says has not been doing what it was intended to do. “It’s actually just stopping all projects and it doesn’t matter if it’s a road, a ski resort or an oil field or even a solar farm or railroad,” continues Curtis. “They’re using it to stop everything and it’s wrong.” HR 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, passed the House of Representatives last week during the 118th Congress.
