Ashley Valley Water and Sewer Improvement District General Manager Ryan Goodrich has provided more information on the Resolution suspending new service connections. Anyone who has received a “Will-Serve” letter from the District prior to the March 28th Resolution still qualifies for a new service connection based on the terms of their letter. Those in the middle of a new construction project should already have that letter, says Goodrich, but it is true that anyone getting ready to buy land or start construction within the District boundaries, whether residential or commercial, will not be able to get the “Will-Serve” letter needed as they are now not available. This does not apply to remodeling projects such as a kitchen or bathroom in the home of an existing customer. A different letter is needed for those projects. New connections will be suspended for 6 months during which time the District is performing a water rights study which will follow specifications from SB158. Currently, the District serves nearly 14,000 customers and the study will determine how close to the limit current water usage is. Goodrich says for years and years the District has purchased available water from Steinaker and Red Fleet to then sell back to their customers but they know that limit is pretty much tapped out. Future developers will likely have to bring water rights to the District when seeking a new water connection. View the Resolution at www.AVWSID.com.
