Most people have noticed positive changes in downtown Vernal with businesses investing in their storefronts and new businesses moving in. Things are about to gain momentum in transforming downtown with several buildings scheduled for demolition. Vernal City acquired the buildings on 100 East from Main Street to 100 South from the Showalter family as part of the Vernal City downtown revitalization efforts. The north building was a mechanic shop and car sales business while the south building was Basin Laundry. “The Basin Laundry building will be demolished in early April after asbestos remediation,”shares Vernal City. “The mechanic shop/car sales building and fencing will be removed in May after asbestos removal and solicitations for demolition.” The north area will be sold for future development after environmental testing and cleanup. The south area will be part of a new public parking lot. Bids for the demolition work are due April 3rd. This is just one of many revitalization projects to come.
