SSD1 Director Cheryl Meier presented at the Vernal Chamber luncheon last week and provided an update on Recreation projects anticipated this year. The rec center pool of course requires a lot of focus. The Wibit is set up the 1st Saturday of every month and there are new pieces to be enjoyed. When annual pool maintenance occurs at the end of the summer the stairway up to the slides is going to be redone. Meier also shared some great news. Thanks to the diligence of pool manager Wendy Harris, the rec center pool was ranked #1 in safety for 2022 out of 30 member facilities and 42 pools covered in their insurance group. Meier also highlighted that providing irrigation water to Kids Canal will become the responsibility of Special Service District 1 in order to keep the trees alive. The baseball and softball fills will have some work done with the dirt and some potential backdrops. And finally, 4 pickleball courts will be added at Independence Park. Meier admitted she initially didn’t think pickleball would make its way to Vernal but can’t deny it is not only popular but is also a lot of fun.
