Expanding areas at the Vernal Regional Airport for hangers, including the addition of commercial hangers, was the main topic explored during the Vernal City/Uintah County meeting on Monday. Vernal Airport Director Ken Campbell presented and explained that not only is there a major need for more general aviation hangers but there is also serious interest from those wanting a commercial size hanger at the Vernal Regional Airport. Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion shared with Evans Family Media after the meeting that the discussion is focused on 3 different areas to be opened up for hanger development. This would include space for hangers on the small side around 50’ by 40’ to larger 60’ by 60’ hangers and then commercial hangers 100’ by 100’. In the long run this could open up as many as 30 new hanger locations which would be a good boost to the local aviation economy. It is anticipated that the first area will be constructed this summer starting with a new hanger taxiway. The commercial hanger area would be next, possibly constructed by this fall.
