The community is mourning the loss of a local elementary teacher killed in a crash on Highway 40. Utah Highway Patrol reports that on Monday, February 13th, at approximately 6:44am, a 2022 grey Hyundai Kona was traveling east on Highway 40 at mile marker 103 near Myton. A 2004 white Peterbilt hot oil truck was traveling west at the same location. The driver of the hot oil truck drifted into the eastbound lane and stuck the Hyundai Kona head-on. The 32-year-old female driver of the Hyundai was killed on impact, and the driver of the hot oil truck was uninjured. Lane closures were in place for approximately 2 hours during the investigation. The Duchesne County School District issued a letter to parents in the District announcing that Kami Gines, 3rd grade teacher at Kings Peak Elementary, was the victim killed in the crash. Evans Family Media extends our condolences to all mourning this difficult loss.
