A driver was tragically killed Monday morning while traveling westbound on Highway 40 in Uintah County. This was the second fatal crash during slick conditions in this area this winter season. According to Utah Highway Patrol, officers were dispatched on Monday, January 30th, at 7:11am to a fatal traffic collision near milepost 137 on US-40. “A 2017 Nissan Rogue was traveling westbound with one 19-year-old male driver. A 2018 Jeep Cherokee, with two 17-year-old occupants, was eastbound at the same location. The roads were slick, covered in snow and ice. The Nissan passed an uninvolved vehicle, slid out of control, and traveled into the oncoming lane. The Jeep collided with the Nissan on the passenger side in the number two eastbound lane. The driver of Nissan was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.” UHP was later informed that the driver had died. The two occupants within the Jeep were transported with non-life-threatening injuries. Both directions of traffic were shut down for about 10 minutes before being opened to alternating traffic through the scene during the investigation.
