Upgrades to the ice rink and amphitheater at the Western Park are underway. The funds are part of the $12 million dollars of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and no local tax dollars are involved, explains Uintah County Commissioner Bart Haslem. The two projects together amount to about $7.5 million dollars. It’s been 30 years since the amphitheater has had updates. “This will enhance the arts community and give us a bigger venue for concerts and events,” explains Haslem. Likewise, it has been 15 years since the ice rink was built and at that time they did not know what to expect but the facility now supports multiple hockey clubs and the Oilers. “These facilities are both so well used,” shares Haslem, “and are just another way to bring people downtown, filling up our hotels and supporting businesses.” The final construction plans will be shared when made available.
