Additional details have been made available following an arrest earlier this month in Myton. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a man in Myton who was riding a bicycle in the dark without an attached light. Not only was there an outstanding warrant on him but he had with him on the bike a makeshift spear with a kitchen knife attached. After the officer informed the man that he was going to jail for the warrant, court documents say the man said he was going to kill the officer as he pulled out a machete. The man, 53-year-old Lee Bennet Richins, resisted arrest and threatened to kill the officer which forced the officer to draw his weapon. Richins then fled on his bike. The officer pursued Richins with emergency lights and then activated his siren. Richins ignored orders to drop his knife and took off on foot. Blocks away it took the officer firing his weapon twice to get Richins to drop to the ground and being tasered to release his weapons. The suspect was taken to the hospital and upon his release was booked on several charges including, assault on a peace officer with use of a dangerous weapon and two counts of unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon.
