CTE teachers at Roosevelt Junior High School have collaborated to provide their students with a real life business experience. The teachers worked together across their curriculums, asking students to create a company and see it through the entire business model from production, marketing and sales, to financial investments and returns. The companies created were Christmas Crate Company, Hook-N-Swing, Country Candies, Sleighs-R-Us, Little Red Chevy, Sweet Pines, and the Lighted Tree. Each of Bart Miller’s Exploring Technology classes were in charge of the design and construction of the product with student leaders serving as the company CEOs. Assignments were made, records had to be kept of materials and expenses, and students were given the option to buy actual shares in the companies at a dollar each. The learning experiences were varied and hands-on. One example is with the Sweet Pines Company. CEO Maddisyn Huber said she learned how to work in the real world. They sold 73 Sweet Pines, wooden Christmas trees designed to hold 24 candy suckers. Family and Consumer Science students did their part by making almost 2,000 suckers for the trees. This was just one of many success stories experienced thanks to teachers willing to offer a broader learning experience for their students
