All are invited to a ceremony that provides a special opportunity to find support and remember children lost too soon. Vernal’s Angel of Hope is one of many around the world based on Richard Paul Evans’ best selling book, The Christmas Box. In the story, a bereaved mother finds comfort at her daughter’s grave which has a statue of an angel with Hope written in the right wing. As the book grew in popularity, many parents who had lost children began seeking out the statue to find a place of solace and comfort. Evans commissioned the first statue built in 1995. Since then, many more have been placed around the world, including one here in Vernal. Former Vernal residents Wayne and Pam Merrell brought the statue and ceremony to Vernal in memory of their son who they lost in a car accident when he was only 16-years-old. This year’s Angel of Hope ceremony will be held Tuesday, December 6th, at 6:00pm at the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery, 1700 South Vernal Avenue. If you would like to bring a picture of your child you may do so. Candles and carnations will be provided. Please dress in warm clothing.
