Vernal City is considering adding curbside recycling as an option for Vernal City residents. Recyclops is a recycling program that has been introduced to the Vernal area by a private firm. It is now providing curbside service and is gaining customers with participants paying a monthly fee for curbside pickup in plastic trash bags. During the City Council meeting on March 21st, Ryan Smith informed the council about his business providing curbside recycling of paper, plastic, cardboard, and metal. He explained that the program is more effective with City support. During their meeting this week, City Council discussed the possibility of adding the recycling program onto the city’s utility bill as an add-on service, shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. “City staff would facilitate the sign-ups and billing to gain a bulk group rate.” The Council approved moving forward with an RFP, Request for Proposal, to seek proposals from interested providers. The service provider will submit the cost and operation plan as part of the RFP, explains Bennion. The contract will be for one year as a pilot program and after a year the program will be reviewed.
