While the rain and snow is great for our drought conditions, the amount of snow needed to get us out will be considerable. That in turn will create winter driving conditions.
Here are some winter driving safety tips from the Duchesne Volunteer Fire Department. Carry a kit in your vehicle to handle common winter driving related tasks or emergencies. Be sure to include a snow shovel, a broom, an ice scraper, abrasive material (such as sand or kitty litter) in case you get stuck in snow, jumper cables, flashlight, warning devices (flares and emergency markers), and blankets. Also keep on hand a cell phone and charger, water, food, and any necessary medicine. While driving, be sure to drive in the lane that has most recently been plowed. Increase your following distance by 8 to 10 seconds when driving on slippery surfaces. Do not use cruise control and avoid quick, jerky motions.
Please remember that winter conditions bring extra dangers to the road, so stay alert and drive on the side of caution.
