TriCounty Health Department will be having their Basic Naloxone (or NARCAN) training. This training will teach you to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Nasal Naloxone (NARCAN). Naloxone can quickly restore normal breathing to a person if their breathing has slowed or stopped because of an opioid overdose but naloxone has no effect on someone who does not have opioids in their system. It is not a treatment for opioids in their system or for opioid use. Utah has the 4th highest overdose rate in the U.S. with 80% of heroin users getting their start with prescription opioids. Opioids are highly addictive narcotics commonly prescribed to treat pain. Opioids adverse health concerns include slowed breathing (sign of an overdose), coma, permanent brain damage, or death. Oxycodone, Percocet, Codeine, Hydrocodone, Lortab, fentanyl, Morphine are among common opioids. There is limited space for the event so please register. The training is Wednesday, November 9th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm in either Roosevelt or Vernal.
