Roosevelt Animal Shelter has shared that they are in need of volunteers. The facility has been operating over max capacity and this means that their dog room is completely full and noisy. There is a great need to get the dogs out on a walk and breathing some fresh air. As the shelter said “a 30 minute walk can relieve so much stress for these doggos.” Studies have found that walks help dogs’ mental health. Dogs who lack enough mental and physical stimulation will act out with inappropriate behaviors like excessive digging or chewing furniture. Going for daily walks helps keep their minds engaged. Not only that, it helps you as dog walkers are two and a half times more likely to meet the daily federal recommendation of 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day than non-dog walkers. Volunteers are welcome anytime the shelter has business hours, generally 12pm to 5pm Monday through Friday.
