Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Scams

Another day, another scam. Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office reports that they have been responding to an increasing amount of fraud complaints involving telephone scams. “The caller threatens to be with Moonlake Electric, IRS, and other various organizations,” shares the announcement. “Please remember, these organizations will not call you and demand immediate payment over the phone. There are some callers that will act like Publisher’s Clearing House or a give-away company saying you won something substantial. Know if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.” These scams often target elderly people so be sure to reach out to your elderly family, friends, and neighbors and explain that they should not give out personal information and never make payments or purchase gift cards to pay the caller anything. The best thing to do in the event of a call like this is to hang up. If you have been targeted or have questions, contact your local law enforcement agency.
