The vision of those who wanted to see hot air balloons fly over Vernal again have not only had their wish realized but exceeded. If you look to the sky you’ll see that Dinah “SOAR” Days is happening this week and this year’s event is officially the largest hot air balloon festival in the state! Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp shares that the balloon festival has become one of Vernal’s largest events along with Holly Days and the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo. “It started out with a small committee just wanting hot air balloons to fly in Vernal again,” shares Coltharp. “There used to be an event about 20 years ago and this committee just wanted it back…It takes a community to put it on and it has grown because of the vision of the community in wanting to embrace Vernal’s Dinah “SOAR” heritage.” This year’s festival runs August 26th through the 28th with the balloon launch each morning from 6:30 to 8:30am at the Uintah Recreation Center and the night glow on Main Street Friday and Saturday night.
