Utah Fire Info provided an update on the Dollar Ridge Fire on July 5th. At that time, the Dollar Ridge Fire had reached 42,000 acres and was 4 percent contained. 402 personnel were fighting the fire including 6 Type 1 crews, 4 Type 2 crews, 11 engines, 10 helicopters, and 9 dozers. A meeting was held
Thursday night
at Duchesne High School with the Great Basin Incident Management Team and other leaders reporting and answering questions. It was reported that a south wind is what pushed the fire north on Wednesday, pushing it over Highway 40 near Current Creek. As of
Thursday night
, the fire had burned about 500 acres on the north side of Highway 40. Incident Commander Tony DeMasters explained that the fire has the ability to move a great distance in a short amount of time and so their team is looking ahead strategically, and using the assets to the best of their ability because the fire can move any direction at any time. Among the other presenters was Sheriff David Boren who emotionally described a close call with two of his deputies who got caught behind the fire line. They had to evacuate the vehicles and hike a steep ridge and were thankfully able to be picked up by other deputies. Sheriff Boren also acknowledged the community who he says has taken care of the many people affected by the fire.
