Attorney General’s Office Takes Over Toddler Death Investigation

The Utah Attorney General’s Office has taken over the investigation of a toddler’s death in Duchesne County. Duchesne County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home north of Roosevelt on the morning of August 5th on a report of an unresponsive child.  “Upon their arrival, deputies determined the child was deceased,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “His body was taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, as required by law.” The Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that their office and the Duchesne County Attorney’s Office has asked the Attorney General’s Office to take over the investigation of the toddler’s death to avoid the potential for a conflict of interest because one of the boy’s primary caregivers has a professional relationship with Duchesne County detectives and prosecutors. Any further questions about the case should be directed to the Utah Attorney General’s Office.
