People have been making the trip to Daggett County this month to catch a first hand peek at the salmon as they spawn. For those new to the experience, you are in luck. An annual free viewing event is being held this weekend. The viewing site is easy to get to, located about six miles south of Manila with signs posted from both directions on SR-44. Seeing the Kokanee Salmon in their bright red spawning colors as they make their way up the river to spawn is amazing. It is during their journey they undergo a dramatic transformation as their color changes from sleek silver to fluorescent red, shares the Division of Wildlife Resources. The viewing event allows you to view the fish as they “embark on the most important (and final) mission of their lives.” Be sure to also bring a pair of binoculars or a spotting scope to look for Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, wild turkeys, sandhill cranes, red-tailed hawks, song birds, squirrels, and other wildlife that are usually poking around. The event is being held on Saturday, September 15th, from 9am to 2pm.
