A fatal crash occurred
Sunday morning
on Highway 40 near Currant Creek. According to Utah Highway Patrol,
at about 7:54am
, an uninvolved citizen was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 near milepost 56 when they noticed tire tracks in the snow that went off the westbound shoulder of the road. “The citizen stopped, saw a pickup overturned on the westbound shoulder of the roadway, and called 9-1-1 to report the crash,” shares Utah Highway Patrol. “Responding troopers and EMS personnel found the driver side roof of the pickup’s cab had struck a large rock on the shoulder, which caused fatal injuries to the driver. The driver was the only occupant in the pickup and no other vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash.” Troopers believe the pickup was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 probably sometime after
7:00am
when the driver drifted across the westbound lanes and hit curbing in the area which caused the pickup to overturn and strike the large rock. “Troopers believe that fatigue was a contributing factor to the crash,” shares Utah Highway Patrol. The driver has been identified as 42-year-old Justin Wardle of Salt Lake County. Wardle was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
