The deer hunt opener was good in some areas and slow in others, according to the Division of Wildlife Resources. Snow is likely what made the difference during opening weekend of the general rifle buck deer hunt as the colder temperatures pushed deer out of the high country and into areas where hunters had an easier time finding them. The number of deer brought through voluntary check stations in northeastern Utah were impressive and double from last year at some locations. “We’ve had a really good hunt,” shares DWR assistant wildlife manager Randall Thacker. “Hunters were seeing deer and getting shots…Most of the deer that came through the two stations were younger animals but it was impressive to see an increase in the number of deer checked.” The rifle deer hunt opened on October 20th and runs
through October 28th.
