Tragically a pregnant crash victim and her unborn son died on Tuesday as a result of critical injuries sustained from a head-on collision on Highway 40 that took place Saturday. The driver responsible for the crash, 22-year-old Tyson Uresti, was charged on Monday in 4th District Court with felony Transfer of a Stolen Vehicle, misdemeanor Failure to Remain at an Accident Involving Injury, Reckless Driving, Failure to Stay in One Lane, and No Valid Driver’s License. Court records show that just two days before the crash, Uresti was charged with Sexual Battery in American Fork’s 4th District Court for an incident that allegedly occurred in May. Other charges against Uresti filed this year in Utah include felony Theft in Manti’s 6th District Court last spring and felony Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Theft, and Failure to Stop at Command of Police in Provo’s 4th District Court. Saturday’s crash happened outside Heber City when Uresti crossed the center line crashing into an oncoming vehicle with two occupants, a pregnant woman and her husband. Uresti fled on foot after the crash but was picked up by law enforcement shortly after. He was treated at the hospital and then booked into the Wasatch County Jail. The vehicle Uresti was driving was recently stolen out of Duchesne County.

Loved ones of the crash victims created a Go Fund Me page on Sunday under the name ‘Shantell, Macoy & Sweet Baby Boy’ inviting help for medical expenses for the injured couple and their unborn child who were all fighting for their lives. Tragically, it was confirmed on Tuesday that the pregnant wife, 22-year-old Shantell Young, and her unborn child passed away from their injuries. Shantell’s husband Macoy remains hospitalized. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the Young family at this devastating time.
