A local high school student is the focus of an amazing new video from the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. Uintah High School student Sean Fletcher is the perfect example of how new technology can assist students who are blind and visually impaired. The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind provided Sean with the Aira smart glasses, offering Sean a new level of independence. The glasses have a camera attached to them that transmits to agents in a call center who help Sean navigate the world. In the video, Sean explains that he can call the agents in the grocery store, while walking around the community, and even while in class. The agents then talk to him through his ear bud or device and describe what is around him. “[This technology] has positively impacted his life,” shared USDB Director of Blind Outreach Brandon Watts. “He uses it at school. He uses it at work. He uses it to meet up with his friends. We’re excited that Sean has this technology right now.
