The Vernal Rotary Club looks to meet needs in the community and their most recent project will make a massive difference in the lives of local infants and their families. A special meeting was held on Thursday during which the Rotary Club presented Ashley Regional Medical Center with funds for biliblankets to treat neonatal jaundice in newborns. For decades, hospitals have used phototherapy treatment to address jaundice in babies but the treatment often involves admitting the infant to the hospital. The Rotary Club’s donation of $7,800 dollars will provide a free-of-charge option to treat these infants in the comfort of their own home and without disrupting time with mother and the family. The biliblanket is what it sounds like: a portable phototherapy pad with an LED light source that can be wrapped around the baby to treat neonatal jaundice. Baby can still be held, fed, and cared for while the biliblanket is in use. They will be available to Doctors throughout the Basin.
