The Bureau of Land Management has announced that they will be doing prescribed burning in Uintah County this month. The Vernal Field Office plans to implement the Pariette Prescribed Fire at the western portion of the Pariette Wetlands, southwest of Ouray and Pelican Lake through the end of the month. “The burn is designed to occur semi-annually and help maintain suitable riparian habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife that enjoy the unique nature of an oasis in the desert,” shares the announcement. Burns are held in the spring and fall to help keep the impoundments free of cattails and other vegetation, maintaining 50 percent or more open water for waterfowl.
