US Forest Service Issues Avalanche Warning

The Utah Avalanche Center has increased the current avalanche danger ratings from moderate to considerable throughout Utah. Specifically in the Uintas, that moderate danger is found above the tree line on the slopes facing the north half of the compass. It is where both new and older wind drifts rest on top of weak snow. The U.S. Forest Service reminds those that are in avalanche country to be prepared. Be sure to always carry a transceiver, probe, and shovel in the backcountry to help you find a buried partner and be found. Practice with your gear regularly. Seconds count and your gear only works when you can use it confidently and efficiently in bad conditions. Always be aware of avalanche conditions in the areas you are recreating.
