The 8th annual ‘Sub For Seniors’ effort is underway and donations are needed in the quest to brighten the Christmas holiday for local elderly community members. During the first year 8 years ago, Christmas cheer and gifts were delivered to 75 senior households and the effort has grown in the years since to serve more than 400 seniors. Cindy Ruppe with the Golden Age Center says that the local seniors are overwhelmed and so appreciative when the packages get delivered to them. “It’s just an incredible program for our seniors who are maybe a little bit forgotten, especially at Christmas time,” shares Cindy. “Everyone gets so busy and wrapped up in family things but a lot of the seniors don’t have family so it’s easy to be overlooked. This is a way to appreciate them and every way they have contributed to society and our community and give back to them a little bit.” The packages include food items, personal items, gifts, and even gifts for pets. For a lot of seniors their pet is their family and they are often most excited about the gifts and treats for their pets. So dog or cat food and toys are on the list of items needed, as well as non-perishable food items, puzzles, slippers, warm socks, hygiene items, Adult coloring books, large crossword and word search books, lap blankets, and holiday treats are just a few of the requested items. All items can be dropped off at the Golden Age Center in Vernal Monday through Friday from 8am to 3pm until December 12th. There is also a ‘Sub For Seniors’ Wish List on Amazon that can ship directly to the Golden Age Center. For questions, contact Cindy at 435-790-4790.
