The magic of Christmas is often in short supply for those who find this time of year to be especially lonely and painful. Thankfully, there is a program aimed at delivering Christmas cheer to the local elderly community. “Our Sub for Seniors program is focused on bringing love, warmth, and compassion to the forgotten grandmas and grandpas of the Uintah Basin. Many of these folks have empty cupboards and struggle to make ends meet,” shares program coordinator Tiffany Henline. “Our passionate and committed team of holiday-cheer volunteers will be utilizing donations to pack bags with items of need, nutrition, and holiday joy, to warm the hearts of our beloved senior citizens, making a cheery delivery just before Christmas. We want them to know that they are not forgotten, and that their community cares.” The first year brought cheer to 75 senior households while now, in its 7th year, there are plans to serve more than 400 seniors. New items such as large print activity books, puzzles, slippers, lap quilts, holiday treats, and canned foods are just a few of the requested items. All items can be dropped off at the Golden Age Center in Vernal, Monday through Friday from 8am to 3pm. For more information, call 801-512-4661 or 435-789-2169.
