Progress is being made as crews battle the Mile Marker 166 Fire in eastern Uintah County. According to fire information officer Kelsey Birchell, GPS mapping of the fire shows that it is 2400 acres as opposed to the previously reported 900 acres. Birchell also reports that as of Thursday, the fire was 40 percent contained. The Mile Marker 166 Fire was first reported on Tuesday and initially Highway 40 was shut down to assist with firefighting efforts. Burning on BLM land, the firefighting efforts have overall been from BLM crews. The fire is listed as human caused on the state fire information website though the specific cause is still unknown. The closest structures to the fire are located in Jensen but none are considered in danger. The wet spring has created a build up of dry fuels in some areas creating extra cause for concern this summer.
